We present that attribute brain structures various roles modulating perception pain-related behavior. also examine nervous immune system cellular molecular levels account nociceptive signaling. Furthermore, pointing towards associations neuroendocrine imbalances, alterations circadian timing conclude with several proposals help alleviate future.

Multidisciplinary bio-psycho-social rehabilitation for chronic low back pain.

BACKGROUND Chronic low back pain is, in many countries, the main cause of long term disability in middle age. Patients with chronic low back pain are often referred for multidisciplinary treatment. Previous published systematic reviews on this topic included no randomised controlled trials and pooled together controlled and non-controlled studies. OBJECTIVES To assess the effect of multidisci...

Brain-gut axis as an example of the bio-psycho-social model.

In research we often apply hypothesis testing which assumes a linear, causal relationship between two or more factors. This is a valid way of testing fragments of a complicated chaos of known and unknown elements. However, I want us to reflect upon the thought that the answers we get are limited by the questions we ask. It is said that “If you have a hammer, the only thing you see are nails”. W...

The Perfect Storm - A Bio-Psycho-Social Risk Model for Developing and Maintaining Eating Disorders

The eating disorders (EDs), anorexia nervosa (AN), and bulimia nervosa (BN) are severe psychiatric disorders of unknown etiology. EDs usually begin during adolescence and occur most commonly in females (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The diagnostic criteria for AN include restriction of energy intake leading to significantly low body weight, intense fear of gaining weight, or persiste...

Evidence-Based Invasive Treatment of Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

Diagnostic Procedures Nerve blocks are the most common type of invasive diagnostic procedure. Their rationale is simple: if a certain anatomical structure is the source of pain, then anesthetizing its nerve supply should temporarily relieve the pain. Face and construct validity have been demonstrated for blocks of the nerves that supply the zygapophysial (facet) joints of the cervical and lumba...
